Zoetrope - Tom SloanTom Sloan

Zoetrope

Client: Nike
Location: London UK
Status: Completed February 2006
Photography: Tom Sloan

These point of sale units are made from a two-way mirror, also known as ‘spy mirror’, allowing light to appear inside whilst maintaining the integrity of the surface. Inside is an inverse zoetrope, consisting of a motor, a drum made from photographic film and a strobe light. When activated, the motor and strobe light sync, creating the illusion of a shoe running in space. The units were installed in retail points across London in Camden High Street, Covent Garden, Selfridges, South Moulton Street and Monmouth Street and were activated by proximity sensors. The project was completed at Jason Bruges Studio.
